Anytime, Anywhere Communication – Enhancer or Inhibitor?

With constant interruptions from e-mail, cell phones, instant messaging and handhelds, it can seem tough to focus on any one thing for long enough to be productive. But these new technologies play a key role in enabling contact at critical times, according to a February Inc. Magazine article, Taskus Interruptus: Why Interruption, Distraction and Multitasking are not Such Awful Things Afterall.

Michael McCloskey, CEO of FrontRange, is featured in this insightful piece about how anywhere, anytime contact is often essential to business, even if it – at times – takes you away from the task at hand.

“If I’m in a price negotiation with a big customer, and they’ve got their legal and purchasing people right there, and they want an answer to a question, I better be able to get that answer,” he said. “Because I may not be able to get those people in the same room talking about my product again anytime soon.”

Troubleshooting Windows Error Messages

There are new Windows security features that may cause the following message when logging into GoldMine:

While it's an easy fix to click "Run" to launch GoldMine, you may want to eliminate the message permanently. Here's how:

  1. Select Start|Run and, in the Open field enter gpedit.msc and press OK.

    1. Select User Configuration|Administrative Templates|Windows Components|Attachment Manager

    1. Double-click Inclusion list for low file types and enter the settings shown below:

    (Make sure the path is accurately pointing to your GoldMine executable file.)

    1. Close the Group Policy Editor. Next time you run GoldMine, the Security prompt will not appear.

GoldMine Tech Tip

Here’s a quick tip to ensure a smooth move to a new server. When installing GoldMine on a new server, map the drive first. Then install GoldMine to the mapped drive. It’s important to take care of mappings first to preserve initialization (INI) settings.
